Experimental Bitcoin-enabled Artwork
Status: Concept & iPad Mockup
This interactive artwork explores the opportunities that Bitcoin may offer for the world of art. Appreciate art by adding value to it, receive it back later.
Setup
A white iPad on the wall displays a single image file. It's a high-resolution remake of an iconic Animated GIF of the early bitcoin era: Ufc 190 Cryptocurrency GIF.
Below the spinning coin are two numbers. The first shows the accumulated value in Bitcoin that this artwork has received until now. The value serves as an index of the appreciation of the displayed artwork and/or the idea it represents. The second number represents the total number of likes (= value adding transactions) that have happened until now.
When an user swipes the screen, he is presented with a second screen that reveals more details about the artwork and most importantly, it displays an QR-Code that allows anyone with a mobile BSV-wallet to add any amount of value to this artwork, knowingly that she/he will get back 90% of that same amount in about 10 years from now, on September 9, 2029.
Questions
The point of this work is to ask questions:
Can it be done with Bitcoin?
Is it desireable?
While I was preparing the 10YB10D exhibition, I felt the need to have an exhibit that demonstrates the powers of today's Bitcoin technology. I imagined to exhbit a digital art piece, that would allow visitors to interact instantly with the Bitcoin blockchain.
So, I came up with the idea.
During Twetch Berlin and Hello MetaNet Workshop I took the chance to ask as many knowledable (mostly) technical bitcoin people about the feasibilty of my idea.
Turns out:
Maybe not. Defenitely not before the Genesis upgrade
